Abiding and Aspiring

Dear Biola Community,

Welcome back to what is sure to be another exciting year here at Biola University. Last year was filled with challenges, not only for Biola, but also for the world in general, yet I believe that through those circumstances we grew stronger as a community in Him. Just as the Lord was faithful to Biola in its first century, so has he proven Himself faithful as the university continues in its second century. Biola University initialsI can’t tell you how thankful I am for all of your prayers and support this past year. Please continue to lift Biola up in your prayers.

I’d like to extend a special welcome to our new students and their families as they are all now a part of the Biola community. I also warmly welcome our new faculty members. We are thrilled to have you with us. I am confident that God has brought you to Biola with a specific plan in mind for your life and am excited to see how that will unfold in the coming years and intersect with the lives of the students you will teach.

The university theme chosen for the year is “Abiding and Aspiring as We Go Where God Leads,” based on John 15:7:

“If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you.”

This year, may we abide together in Christ, growing in faith as we encourage each other in his Word. And may we also aspire to do great things—as individuals, as students, staff, faculty, as a university—as the body of Christ, for his Kingdom.

Please join me for Fall Convocation on Wednesday, August 26 at 9:30 a.m. in the gym where we will commit the new school year to God. Talbot Convocation will take place on Tuesday, September 1 at 9:30 a.m. in Calvary Chapel.

As always, I count it a joy to serve alongside you.

Blessings in Christ.

Warmly,

Barry H. Corey
