Setup on Mac - Leopard

This page will go over the one-time setup process needed for you to use DigiNet from your own computer. Once you’ve followed these instructions, you’ll need to open the DigiNet Pop-up page everytime you want to print from your computer.

Printer Setup

Your computer must have the proper printer settings to send jobs to DigiNet. The following steps will take you through the process of setting up a connection to a Windows shared printer. If you want to print Color and Black and White, you’ll need to go through this process twice — once for each printer.

  1. Open the “Print & Fax” pane in “System Preferences” (located in the /Applications/ folder). Click the + sign in the lower left-hand corner to begin the process of adding a new printer.

  2. In the subsequent pane, cntrl+click (or right click) the toolbar and choose “Customize Toolbar”. Leopard Customize Toolbar

  3. Drag the “Advanced” icon over to the toolbar to make additional configuration options available. When you’ve added the icon, click “Done”. Advanced

  4. Click on the “Advanced” icon. A list of additional options will appear. Wait a few seconds for the list to populate. In the “Type” drop-down, select “Windows”. Windows

  5. For the Black & White printer, use the following settings:

    • URL: smb://guest:@10.6.2.61/DigiNetBW
    • In the “Name” field, type a meaningful name of your choice for the printer (“DigiNetBW” for example).
    • In the “Print Using” drop-down menu, choose “Select a driver to use…”
    • Type “Laserjet 2430” in the search field, and select this driver. Click “add” to save your changes.
    • On the next “Installable Options” window, leave the default settings and select “Continue” to finish. Add Printer
  6. For the color printer:
* URL: smb://guest:@10.6.2.61/DigiNetColor

    • In the “Print Using” drop-down menu, choose “Select a driver to use…”
    • In the “Name” field, type a meaningful name of your choice for the printer (“DigiNetColor” for example).
    • Type “Color Laserjet 4650” in the search field, and select this driver. Click “add” to save your changes.
    • On the next “Installable Options” window, leave the default settings and select “Continue” to finish.

Repeat these steps as necessary to add additional printers.

Firewall Exception

  1. In System Preferences, open the “Security” tab. ’
  2. Verify that “Set access for specific services and applications” is selected.
  3. Select the + icon, scroll down the applications list, and select the “Safari” application.
  4. Select “Add”. The list will look as follows: Firewall
  5. You may now close the “System Preferences” panel.

Please note that when printing, you will be prompted to enter your computer’s username/password, or optionally to use “Guest”. You may use either account to authenticate. This is separate from the DigiNet NetID credentials you will be prompted for on the next page.

Congratulations! Your Mac is now setup for DigiNet. Every time you want to print make sure you’re on the Biola Network and you have the DigiNet Pop-up page open. The java applet’s certificate may not be automatically accepted by your browser. Add the authority to your trusted list or select trust every time you visit the page.
