Install on Windows
Users with the Windows XP, Vista or Windows 2000 operating systems must install the Clean Access agent on their system in order to access the network. This guide will walk you through the basic installation of the agent and the agent’s remediation process in order to help you gain access to Biola’s network-based resources and the Internet.
After you have first plugged in your computer in your residence hall you should be able to access a few websites, including Biola’s Portal. When you first open up a web browser, you will be redirected to a login page. Type in your Biola NetID and NetID password and click “Log me in!”
The next page will present some information about Clean Access and a button you can click in order to download the Clean Access Agent software, which is required to gain access to the network. Click the button to begin this download.
Save the installer to your desktop, then find and run the installer on your computer.
A welcome dialog box will pop up, prompting you to begin the Clean Access agent software installation. Click Next and continue through the installation process.
After the installation completes, the Clean Access agent will start up and ask you to login. Enter your Biola NetID and NetID password, then click Login.
After you login, the Clean Access agent will check your computer to make sure that it meets Biola’s network security requirements. If your computer fails to meet a requirement, the agent will give you temporary access to allow you to bring your computer up to date. Click Continue to begin this process.
Clean Access will first try to verify that you have Automatic Updates enabled in Windows. To enable, click your Start menu, Control Panel, and open the Security Center. In the Security Center, click on “Automatic Updates.”
Ensure that the “Automatic (recommended)” option is selected, then click OK.
Next, Clean Access will ensure that you have an antivirus application installed with an up-to-date antivirus definition file. If you do not have an antivirus application installed, you will be given the option to install Biola’s licensed version of Symantec AntiVirus. Click on the Go To Link button to get to the download page, install from your Student Tools CD from the IT Helpdesk, or go to the Student Antivirus web page to download the software.
Download and install the Symantec AntiVirus software installer that is appropriate for your computer.
After installing Symantec AntiVirus, run Symantec LiveUpdate to ensure that you have the most recent Symantec AntiVirus virus definition file.

Lastly, Clean Access will attempt to verify that your computer has the latest Windows Critical Updates from Microsoft. If it determines that your computer is not up-to-date, the agent will give you a “Go To Link” button that will take you to Microsoft’s Windows Update website.
When you arrive at Microsoft’s Windows Update website, click the Express button to locate the appropriate updates for your computer.
Click Install Updates to download and install the high-priority updates.

Once the updates have been installed, you may be required to restart your computer. Restart, or just click Close if a reboot is not required, and then log back into the Clean Access agent. The last requirement you should see within the agent is a link to read the Network Usage Policy. Click the link to read the policy, then click the Accept button to agree to the policy and be granted access to the network.
You have successfully logged in! Click OK to exit the Clean Access Agent remediation process and begin using the network.
