Definition of Faculty
Some terms bear multiple meanings and faculty is one of these. At Biola a distinction is made between “Regular Faculty” and “Contingent Faculty.” Regular Faculty are those persons who have been recommended by the President and approved by the Board to teach, steward the curriculum, and make recommendations concerning peer review and tenure. They are also expected to engage in scholarly research and service both to the university and to the wider Christian community. See Section 8.32 for a more detailed list of activities carried out by Regular Faculty.
Contingent Faculty members hold positions of Administrative Faculty, Special Contract Faculty, Lecturer, Adjunct Faculty, and certain other designations. See Section 8.01 for privileges and procedures of Contingent Faculty.
