Eligibility

International students may qualify for partial scholarships based on previous academic performance, leadership and ministry involvement, and other areas of qualification. In order to qualify for financial aid, all international students must satisfy the following requirements.

  • Minimum academic Grade Point Average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (average of 70%). We review passing marks based on the educational system of the country that a student completed Secondary School in. Note: the Academic Scholarship has a higher GPA requirement.
  • Complete the admissions application by March 1st
  • Complete all admissions requirements.
  • Demonstrate ability to pay for at least 75% of the educational cost by submitting a complete and notarized Affidavit of Support Form
  • Immigration status must be F-1

Servant Leadership Scholarship

The Servant Leadership Scholarship recognizes two Biola seniors who demonstrate excellence as leaders in the areas of community service and ministry. Candidates must be nominated by Biola students, faculty and staff.

  • Amount:
    • $1000 scholarship for the spring semester.
      (An additional $250 will be donated to a charity of the recipient’s choice.)
  • Deadline:
    • December 19, 2014
  • Eligibility:
    • Candidates must be Biola seniors graduating in May or December 2015.
  • Application:
    • No separate application required.
    • Nominations are reviewed by a committee of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Renewal:
    • This scholarship is not renewable.
  • Notice:

    Recipients and their nominators will be invited to an honorary reception in February.

Freshman Academic Scholarship (2014-2015)

  • Biola-funded annual scholarship awarded to incoming undergraduate freshmen students by the Office of Admissions upon acceptance to Biola.
  • Amount:
    • Trustee's Scholarship - $12,000
    • President's Scholarship - $10,000
    • Provost's Scholarship - $8,500
    • Dean's Scholarship - $7,000
    • Eagle Scholarship - $5,000
  • Deadline:
    • Updated GPA and SAT/ACT scores, and class rank are due by May 1.
  • Eligibility:
    • Eligibility requirements based on your unweighted high school GPA and scores received on the SAT or ACT.
  • Application:
    • No separate application required.
    • The Office of Admissions automatically awards the Academic Scholarship at the time the you are admitted to Biola University.
  • Renewal:
    • Annually renewable when a minimum GPA is maintained.

Transfer Student Academic Scholarship (2014-2015)

Biola-funded annual scholarship awarded to incoming undergrad transfer students by the Office of Admissions upon acceptance to Biola.

  • College GPA and Award Amount
    • Level 1 - 3.75 for: $8,000
    • Level 2 - 3.35 - 3.749 for: $6,000
    • Level 3 - 3.0 - 3.349 for: $4,000
  • Deadline:
    • Updated college transcripts are due at the end of the student's spring semester.
  • Eligibility:
    • The student is eligible if he/she is transferring 15 or more credit units, based on a college transcript.
    • If the student is transferring 14 credit units or less, he/she is eligible for the Freshman academic scholarship based on the student's high school transcript and SAT/ACT scores.
  • Application:
    • No separate application required.
    • The Office of Admissions automatically awards the Academic Scholarship at the time the you are admitted to Biola University.
  • Renewal:
    • Annually renewable when a minimum GPA is maintained

Alumni Dependent Scholarship (2014-2015)

Biola-funded scholarship awarded by the Office of Admissions to incoming undergraduate students who are dependents of alumni. For more information please see the Undergraduate Handbook: Alumni Dependent Scholarship

  • Amount:
    • $1000 per year
  • Deadline:
    • No deadline
  • Eligibility:
    • Student must be enrolled at least half-time
    • Student must be a dependent of an alumni who completed a minimum of 30 units at Biola University (including Talbot School of Theology, Rosemead School of Psychology and Cook School of Intercultural Studies)
    • Teaching credential students are not eligible
  • Application:

  • Renewal:
    • Annually renewable

Christian Worker Dependent Scholarship

  • Biola-funded scholarship awarded to undergraduate dependents as determined by the FAFSA. It is a need based scholarship awarded by the Financial Aid Office.
  • Amount:
    • Up to $2,000 per year
  • Deadline:
    • No deadline, based on availability of funds.
  • Eligibility:
    • Financial need
    • Student must be a dependent of pastor, missionary, or other full-time Christian vocational worker.
    • To qualify, the primary parental income must be through the ministry organization
    • Minimum half-time enrollment
    • Teaching credential students are not eligible
  • Application:
    • FAFSA
    • Verification of Information Form (when requested by Financial Aid)
  • Renewal:
    • Non-renewable
    • Student must reapply annually based on financial need and continued involvement in Christian service

Church Matching Scholarship

Biola-funded match to church sponsorship.

  • Amount:
    • Biola will match up to $1,300 for 14-15.
  • Deadline:
    • October 1 is the deadline for students who attend the fall semester only, or both fall and spring semesters
    • March 1 is the deadline for students who attend only the spring semester
  • Eligibility:
    • Traditional undergrads
    • ELSP students once during first two semesters
    • Student must be enrolled at least half-time
    • Must have sufficient financial need
    • F-1 and R-1 visas only
  • Application:
    • Submit Church Matching Scholarship Application for appropriate aid year, and attach a church sponsorship check made out to Biola University by the scholarship deadline
    • Confirmed financial aid file by the scholarship deadline, which includes a completed FAFSA (online) and all requested forms, international students exempt.
  • Renewal:
    • Student must re-apply each year.

Departmental Scholarship

Biola-funded scholarship for a student who has demonstrated achievement in a field of either Athletics, Music, Art, Science, and Communications (Journalism and Speech & Debate).
